The Crippled Woman

Performance In Christianity series

The Crippled Woman – Performance of Jesus

In Luke 13:11-16, we find the story of Jesus healing a woman who had been bent double for 18 years. We could have taken that woman to any doctor in the world and had X-rays and other tests run on her, and NO ONE would have diagnosed her with a spirit of infirmity. Her symptoms would have scientific names, a visible effect on her spine, and a medical prognosis for her future. However, the problem was spiritual, not physical, A Spirit of Infirmity Barry Bennett. The answer to addressing spirits is to know your position in spiritual authority through Christ. If you had roaches in your house or apartment, you would find a way to get rid of them, we walk in the authority that we know.

The Spirit of infirmity (Luke 13:11); the evidence of people possessed by evil spirits is found in Luke 8:2 Mary Magdalene, among other women, had seven demons. A common misconception is that Mary Magdalene was a demonically possessed prostitute, and the Bible doesn’t say that its something that men of ill repute have developed over time. In this instance, the spirit of infirmity means that the illness was induced by a demon who caused her to double over at the waist. Evil spirits can sometimes cause physical maladies as mentioned in the article What is a Spirit of Infirmity?

We need to be aware that a demon must get permission to approach us, Job 2:7; can God trust you with the test? For 18 years? James 4:7–8 describes the remedy concerning resisting the devil and submitting to God Almighty. In James 5:16, we can and should pray effectually for each other, that God will give us a life of victory. As we examine Luke 13:10–17, we see the power and compassion of Jesus toward the infirm. Jesus called her a daughter of Abraham, indicating that she was of the Children of Blessing, the woman was an Israelite and not a gentile. Jesus used His authority to heal her on the Sabbath day which was reserved for the worship of God and the people of God rejoiced, but the high priest, the hypocrite, spoke with indignation to the Son of God who was in control of all things (Matthew 6:25-34).

Luke 13:10-17

And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up [herself]. And when Jesus saw her, he called [her to him], and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid [his] hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. The Lord then answered him, and said, [Thou] hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or [his] ass from the stall, and lead [him] away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

The LORD My Rock, Jehovah Sal’ l (Psalm 18:2), we thank You for You know our rights and the privileges of our Grace. We praise You because Your Healing touch knows no respect of person or days. We decree and declare blessings upon those who walk in the compassion of Your Grace, so that; by the Work of Your Compassion, we do Your Holy Will. Now, for the Kingdom and the Glory of God, we petition, with anointing in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Savior, Amen.
