The Fiery Trial
1 Peter 4:12-19
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
The Apostle Peter, known as the little Petra (the pebble in Matthew 16:18), wrote to the Church in Asia Minor with a greeting of sympathetic passion. It is not a strange thing to experience a trial, and to temper the degree of experience, it's a fiery trial (Job 23:10). Peter lets the Church know that this walk with Jesus is not a rose garden but an experience of strong conviction. There are many trials (Ezekiel 22:17-22) in this walk with Jesus, and we should prepare by reading and studying His Word (2 Timothy 2:15; 2 Timothy 3:16-17). Will you think that trials and tribulations are strange?
Jehovah Mauzzi, The LORD my Fortress - Jeremiah 16:19; we thank You for being the Lord my Fortress. We praise You for extending to us the sympathetic awareness of fiery trials. We declare and decree the blessing (the indwelling of the Holy Spirit) upon those who handle strange trials for the sake of Christ; so that, the Spirit which bears witness is the same that is within us. Now, for the Kingdom and Glory of God, we petition, with the anointing of the Holy Ghost, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
